Episode 17 "Lucy Fakes illness" First Aired JANUARY 28, 1952

I really like this episode a lot! It has so many funny parts.

Lucy really wants to get into Ricky's show again and once again Ricky won't let her. So she decides  to take on three inferior complexes to make him change his mind.

1. Amnesia
2. Assume the characteristic of the person she is kept from becoming (famous actress)
3. Become childlike again

For a while Ricky is completely confused and worried, but once he realized what she was doing he decided to get back at her and hire a actor to pretend to be a doctor and tell Lucy she has some weird disease. SO FUNNY!!!

Episide Sixteen "Lucy Plays Cupid" First Aired JANUARY 21, 1952

We are back to our Episode Journey!

This episode is very funny, but not one of my favorites though.

This one is about Lucy trying to help a elderly neighbor with matchmaking. Lucy thought this was innocent help, but it came back to haunt her.

Miss. Louis (elderly neighbor) gave Lucy a invitation to give to give to her "love" but when Lucy gave it to him he thought that Lucy was liking him... MAJOR CONFUSION!

Here is a short clip!

Video

I just found this video, I thought you all would enjoy! These are "I Love Lucy" character look-a-likes at one of the Lucy Fests.

Episode Fifteen "The Amateur Hour" First Aired JANUARY 14, 1952

This episode begins with Ethel and Lucy coming back from a shopping trip. Lucy got a beautiful dress while Ethel on the other hand bought a plunger.

Everything seemed to be going great  for Lucy, until Ricky finds out the price of her dress, $59.95. He told her that she MUST take the dress back, but she asked if she could pay for it herself and be able to keep it. He agreed to that, but there was still one more problem....how was she going to make the money. The next morning Ricky found Lucy reading the "Want Adds" in the newspaper.

She found an add for babysitting 5 DOLLARS AN HOUR a lot of money in comparison to 50 cents an hour like the other adds. She immediately accepted the job, but then started to wonder why they paid so much money for just babysitting.....

See he look like a well behaved little boy....JUST WAIT!!

I won't show a video of this episode even though I have found many clips, just because I don't want to give away the ending!

Episode Fourteen "The Benefit" First Aired JANUARY 7, 1952

This episode shows many things for the first time in the show!
  1. The Piano is played
  2. Shows Lucy singing
  3. The official first time Lucy "Got into the act"
It begins with Fred and Ethel Lucy and Ricky playing a card game. Lucy and Ricky lose and owe the Mertzs 85 cents. When the game comes to a close Lucy goes to get the money she owes while all the others sing "Shine On Harvest Moon" that is until Lucy comes and sings.

Once they find out that Lucy CANNOT SING,  the singing ceases!

After the boys leave to get some food from the kitchen, Ethel asks Lucy if her women's club can have Ricky for a show they are having. Lucy jumps at the idea that she might be able to get in the act.

After the Mertzs leave Lucy tries to "Sweet Talk" Ricky into performing. He soon catches on to her scheme and after a LOT of "encouragement" from Lucy, he finally accepts even with the clause that Lucy will have to sing.

Lucy practices all day to sing more gracefully, but somehow it just doesn't work.

Once you watch this episode you will find what Lucy has to go through to finally get into the show!

Here is a short clip!

Episode Thirteen "The Adagio" First Aired DECEMBER 31, 1951

Now to start off this episode I thought it would be good to first define the word Adagio so we won't be totally confused.

Adagio: 1. A sequence of well-controlled, graceful movements performed as a display of skill.
             2. A duet by a man and a women or mixed trio emphasizing difficult technical feats.

Well we all know Lucy, she always wants to get into Ricky's show and be the star, so this time Ricky needs a Apache dancer for his club. And as you know Lucy tries her very hardest to be that dancer.

When Fred heard about this he wanted to be in the show as well as Lucy's partner! They "practiced" for a little while, but that didn't work very well at all! Just take a minute and imagine that.....Yea that didn't work!

But when she hires a actual French dance instructor that didn't go very well either. After much trouble with him she tells him to go away and he did for a little bit, but came back...

I don't want to give the whole episode away so why don't you go and watch the episode for yourself and tell me what you think of it!

Episode Twelve "Drafted" First Aired DECEMBER 24, 1951

I have always enjoyed this episode and I hope you will too!

This episode begins with Ethel bringing up Lucy's mail. Lucy is not quite surprised that when she reads her postcard Ethel know exactly what it says. Lucy makes a big deal that reading other people's mail is a federal offence and that she would NEVER dream of opening Ricky's mail, but when she finds a letter addressed to Ricky that is from the War Department her mind is quickly changed.

The way Ethel and Lucy interpret the letter is that Ricky is drafted into the war, but in reality the letter really means that Ricky is asked to perform in a show to entertain the troops.

The next day Lucy comes down to Ethel and Fred's apartment to find Ethel crying because she was told by Fred that he is going with Ricky Monday. They both decide to knit socks and for Lucy "tents" (When you watch the episode you will understand), but when Ricky and Fred find them knitting "Little things and hiding them..." they jump to the conclusion that they are both pregnant!

Before Ricky and Fred leave for Fort Dix they plan a surprise baby shower for the girls, while at the same time the girls plan a going away party for the boys. As you would assume there was major confusion!

What I find interesting is that after this episode has ended there is a "tag scene" where they have Ethel, Fred, Ricky, and Lucy celebrating Christmas seeing as this episode was aired on the 24th of December!

To my GREAT dismay I cannot find a video, so until I am able to find one, it is left for you to watch yourself!

It look as if the "picture" technical difficulties has been taken care of so hopefully there won't be any problem with these pictures.

Episode Eleven "Lucy Is Jealous Of Girl Singer" First Aired DECEMBER 17 ,1951

For me personally I didn't really like this episode due to some of the content....so I would recommend skipping this one and going on to the next. So very soon I will have Episode 12 posted!

Episode 10 "The Fur Coat" First Aired DECEMBER 10, 1951

We are back into the episode journey, but keep checking under the LUCY FEST PICTURES page there may be more pictures of my Lucy Fest trip!

This episode is about when Ricky comes home after renting a 3,500 mink coat for a dance number down at the club where he works and Lucy finds out that the coat isn't Ethel's like she did to begin with, she thinks it is her coat. Ricky was about to tell her that that expensive coat isn't hers, but she thanks him for not forgetting their anniversary.

Ricky has to try many methods to get the coat away from Lucy.

1. Tries to "steal" the coat at night while she is sleeping and says that it was stolen by a burglar
2. Takes the coat away while she is doing the dishes
3. Has Fred act as a burglar at night to grab the coat.......

While all those ideas were good ones they just didn't work out. Once you watch this episode you will find that his attempts to get a hold of the coat very funny.

Until Ethel spills the beans Lucy has no idea that her beloved coat isn't actually hers at all. But when she does find out she gets VERY mad and has a plan to get back at Ricky.

Enjoy!

Episode Nine "Men Are Messy" First Aired DECEMBER 3, 1951

I apologize ahead of time that I haven't been up to date with postings. I have been really busy and on vacation so I haven't really had much time! Especially during the school year you will also find the inconsistency of the blog postings as well.

I really like this episode!!! It used to be one of my absolute favorites.

It starts out with Lucy getting the house in such a clean manner, nothing out of place, but when Ricky comes home things drastically change.

1. Takes newspapers and magazines out of drawers and scatters them around
2. Takes off his Cardigan sweater and throws it on the ground
3. When he eats nuts and fruit the remains he tosses on the ground as well

When Lucy comes in to find the house a once again shamble she decides to divide the house in two LITERALLY! She took some tape or string (Couldn't tell which) and marks a line down the room. Everything on Lucy's side is clean and sparkly and everything on Ricky's is......well......."A Pig's Pen" After watching this episode yourself you will see the difficulties of the house divide like.....
  • Answering the phone, when the phone is "on the line"
  • getting out the door when the front door is on the other person's side
  • eating with the kitchen.......you get the picture
They keep this up for about a day I assume, but when Ricky calls from the club and says that a photographer from what Lucy thinks is from "Half Beat magazine" but is really from "Look" magazine he tells her to get the house all clean. When Lucy and Ethel hear about this they have other plans.

I am really sorry I can't find any short clips of this episode from YouTube like I normally do, but if any of you find any from "Men are Messy" let me know so I can post it.

Enjoy!

Episode Eight "The Seance" First Aired NOVEMBER 26,1951

Don't be thrown off by the title, it doesn't sound like this one would be a good episode, but it is. It shows at the end that telling fortunes is silly.

The first scene starts out with Lucy reading a book about numerology and gets really into it. Before Ricky leaves for the club Lucy checks his horoscope which says that this is his good day, but later finds out that that paper was yesterday's and today's says that this is NOT his day and to say no to everything. When Mr. Merriweather calls (TV producer) Lucy thinks it is Ricky's barber and says "No....No....Ricky said you were going to call and the answer is no!"

When they go to Mr. Merriweather office to explain they get caught up into telling fortunes, numerology......That Lucy gets carried away and said that they were holding a Seance at their house tonight. Mr. Merriweather was VERY excited he was hoping to "contact" Tilly (His Dog, but everyone assumes that she is his wife)

At the Seance Lucy pretends to be the voice of Tilly while Ricky asks Fred to be Tilly. When Lucy finds out that during the seance "Tilly was actually there" and when Fred found out.........

Here is a short clip!

Episode Seven "The Audition" First Aired NOVEMBER 19,1951

This episode is basically the same as the pilot, but for me personally I like this one better! If you have been following along with me on this journey you will find the basic outline of this episode on the pilot description.

Few things that are different
  • Different clown Buffo
  • Shows the bathroom
  • A few different lines
  • Different apartment

Episode Six "The Quiz Show" First Aired NOVEMBER 12, 1951

I like this episode, in that it is funny, fun to watch... Just heads up I couldn't find a video clip of this episode, so I apologize.

This episode starts off when Ricky finds Lucy's Household account book. When he finds that she is WAY behind and hasn't been paying the bills he puts his foot down and says that she won't be given any more money until this bill situation is under control.

Lucy is extremely discouraged, but when Ethel invites Lucy to go on a radio show "Females are Fabulous" and tells her that the prize money is 1,000 dollars, her mood brightens.

When she arrives at the radio broadcast she is immediately put to the test to see whether or not she is capable of the main task. Once she passes the initial test Freddie Filmore (The host) tells Lucy what she has to do. A man will show up at Lucy and Ricky's house around 8:00 and pretend to be Lucy's first husband if she keeps up the joke aka task until midnight she will receive the 1,000 dollars.

But that is not all. A neighborhood bum decides to drop on in Lucy's apartment unexpectedly at the same time the man from the radio show is supposed to come. As you would assume there was HUGE confusion.

Hope you enjoy this episode as much as I have!

Episode Five "Lucy Thinks Ricky Is Trying To Murder Her" First Aired NOVEMBER 5, 1951

I really LOVE this one! I have to admit, I have probably watched this episode 30 times. It is funny even from the beginning.

In this episode......well the title really explains itself. Ricky came home one night to find Lucy reading "The Mocking Bird Murder Mystery", she was so engrossed in the book she dipped her cracker into Cold Cream instead of Cheddar Cheese and didn't even notice it. (When I was a young child I actually dipped my cracker in Cold Cream "To be like Lucy" and I almost gagged.) Anyway......When Ricky came to kiss her, she threw her book out the window and had to wait till morning to find it. When she was explaining the book to Ricky he made up his own theory of what happened, who killed the heroine, what did the murderer  use.....

  • Gun......"Too loud"
  • Knife....."Too sloppy"
  • A SCARF....."Perfect!"
Lucy didn't think anything of it at first, but when Ethel came and told Lucy her fortune which said that she was going to die she got really scared.

Reasons why she thinks Ricky is going to murder her......
  1. Overhears a startling phone call
  2. Finds a "Gun"
  3. Thinks Ricky slipped her a Micky
Here are some pics and a short clip from today's episode.

Episode Four "The Diet" First Aired OCTOBER 29, 1951

This episode I wouldn't suggest watching many times. For one thing it isn't very interesting, and isn't the best moral wise.

This episode is about Lucy finding out that she weighs more than she did when she was married. She was 110 and now is 132. When she auditions for Ricky's club the only reason why she couldn't do it was she couldn't fit in the costume, but Ricky said if she could fit into a size 12, by opening night she could perform.

So Ethel tries to help Lucy lose those few pounds, they try everything exercise, not eating, steaming herself.......

In the end she was able to perform, but afterward she had to stay in bed for three weeks, because she suffered from malnutrition.

Episode Three "Be A Pal" First Aired OCTOBER 22, 1951

This is actually a very good episode not even considering that this one was in the first season which aren't as well done as the later seasons.

This episode is about Lucy trying to get Ricky's attention. He ignores her at breakfast "Hides behind the paper", doesn't talk to her in the morning.........So Lucy decides to do something about that.
  1. Pops toast out of the toaster at Ricky.......FAILED
  2. Walks out the door and rings the doorbell......FAILED
  3. Yells.....FAILED
  4. Even lights a fire under Ricky's newspaper.......FAILED
Then Ethel gets a book by Doctor Humphrey's "How To Keep The Honeymoon From Ending"
Chapter 1. GLAMOUR, dress up for your husband at breakfast.........FAILED

Chapter 2. "Be A Pal", take up your husband's hobby, fishing, golfing.......For Ricky it is poker. As you would assume that didn't go very well either.

Back to Doctor Humphrey's. By now Lucy is really upset.
Chaper 3. Make your home more like his hometown and be a mother to him.......hmmmm well........

After Ricky finds out what Lucy is trying to do, he hugs her and said "If I wanted to stay in Cuba, I would have stayed in Havana."

Here is a short clip from today's episode.

Episode Two "The Girls Want To Go To A Nightclub" First aired OCTOBER 15, 1951

This episode is about Fred and Ethel's 18th wedding anniversary. (Fred and Ethel are Lucy and Ricky's landlords and best friends) The first scene opens where Lucy and Ethel are doing dishes and Ethel brings up the idea to go to a nightclub for her anniversary. While just in the next room Fred has other plans, he wants to go to the fights.

They all finally decided that Fred and Ricky would go to the fights and Lucy and Ethel would go to the nightclub without them, but there was a catch they all would have dates. (Not a very moral start to "I Love Lucy" one of the reasons why this one isn't one of my favorites) DON"T WORRY IF YOU WATCH THIS ONE AND DON'T LIKE IT DON'T STOP WATCHING "I LOVE LUCY" BECAUSE OF THAT IT GETS SO MUCH BETTER AND WHOLESOME!

So Lucy and Ethel dress up and pretend to be the boys' (Ricky and Fred) dates. The guys are fooled for a while, but when the find out that their "dates" are their wives they are a little mad at first, but then in the end they find it all funny. To the girls' dismay the way they end up celebrating the anniversary is going to the fights after all.

Some things that caught my eye......
  1. In Lucy's kitchen there are some fringe curtains around her cupboards, but as you will see it is ONLY in that episode. As it is in this pic.
2.You will find in this episode and in all the other episodes the characters smoking, take note that that was before smoking was banned from television.

Here are some pics of today's episode!

(Above) Lucy and Ethel dressed as "gorgeous" dates

And here is a short clip from todays show

Episode One The Lost 'I Love Lucy" Pilot First Aired March 2, 1951

Thank you for joining me on my jouney through the "I Love Lucy" episodes.

This is a clip of the pilot. For me personally this one isn't one of my favorites, I am not sure why though. The first episodes have always not been my favorite. So for some of you that have NEVER watched "I Love Lucy" before I wouldn't suggest to watch this one first, watch one from the later episodes.

I just finished watching the pilot, and few things caught my eye.
  1. You can already notice Ricky's accent, for example
  • "Oh I'm just tissing you" instead of teasing you
    2. First song you hear Ricky sing is Babalu which you will find is his signature song

I will in later posts show you other things I have noticed, but for now.........here are some pics from this episode.
